CUSTANCE

THE ETHOS BEHIND

CUSTANCE

At Custance Home and Furniture, we believe furniture should do more than fill a room. It must breathe life into it. Our guiding principle is simple yet profound: create pieces from authentic materials through human-centered design, so they invite touch, interaction, and admiration in equal measure.

Every chair, cabinet, wardrobe, ottoman, and custom creation begins as a sketch, but it truly comes alive in the workshop. We build with intention and flexibility. Flow with the adjusting proportions, experimenting with grain and texture, selecting the perfect wood species. This will continue until the piece feels right, balanced, and full of character. This hands-on evolution ensures each item isn't static; it's designed to be lived with, leaned on, gathered around, admired, and cherished over time.

FOUNDED ON

At the heart of Custance Home is a belief rooted in faith and redemption – the conviction that we are here to serve the people around us. It is to create furniture with care and intention rather than haste.

My approach to craftsmanship is shaped by embracing the ebbs and flows of the work. There are moments when a solution feels just out of reach. Yet with patience, you can discover personal and distinctive details.

Custance Home pushes back against mass-made disposable furniture. Our pieces are made to reflect the unique character of the people who live with them, creating a quiet but lasting connection in their daily lives.

A live edge wooden coffee table with a bowl of assorted decorations, a lit candle, and two books on it, placed in front of a colorful painting in a room with a dark cowhide rug and a potted plant.
Three black wooden cabinet doors open with ornate gold handles, situated in a room with a carpeted floor and a plant in the background.

We source our materials responsibly from a trusted local sawmill in Summerland, BC, just minutes from our West Kelowna workshop. Woods like golden locust, black walnut, Siberian elm, Norwegian maple, and London plane. All rich in natural beauty, strength, and unique figuring. This is the essential base to form the heart of every piece. These authentic, mostly local species carry the essence of our region, ensuring sustainability, community support, and an unmistakable warmth that mass-produced furniture simply can't replicate.

At the end of each day, we smile and enjoy our work. We love providing our clients with pieces that they interact with everyday. Our community will create memories around these pieces. Perhaps holding a grandchild by a grandpapa in our chair. The celebration of a new relationship around our ottoman. A Christmas family dinner around our dining room table. These moments are why we do what we do. To provide a ground for our friends to create unforgettable moments.

Our furniture is made to bring joy: the quiet satisfaction of running your hand over a smooth, hand-planed surface; the comfort of sinking into a well-proportioned seat; the subtle pride of owning something crafted with care and story.
