FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Every piece is made to order by hand in our studio. Standard lead time is 16–24 weeks from deposit to delivery, depending on timber availability and the complexity of the commission. We will give you a firm timeline the day we begin. White-glove delivery is included, our team will call a week ahead with a precise window.
-
Because each Custance creation is singular and built exactly to your vision, we do not accept returns on custom work. If your piece arrives damaged, we will repair or replace it at no cost once we inspect (photo documentation required within 72 hours of delivery).
-
We stand behind the integrity of our craftsmanship for the life of the piece. The structural frame, joinery, and hand-applied finishes are guaranteed to the original owner. Natural grain, knots, and color shifts that occur over time are not defects. This is the living story of the timber.
-
Complete. Dimensions, wood species, finish tone, hardware, even entirely new designs. We begin with a conversation, send timber and finish samples, and provide concept drawings before any work starts. Nothing leaves the studio until you approve.
-
Yes. 50% at the time of order to secure your commission and the specific timber selected. The balance is due upon final approval and before delivery.
-
White-glove service is standard: inside placement, basic assembly if needed, and removal of all packaging. We ship nationwide (and internationally on request). Remote locations may require a freight forwarder — we will quote this transparently.
-
Absolutely. We send physical samples of the exact timber and hand-rubbed finishes at no charge. Many clients also schedule a studio visit to meet the maker and touch the material in person. In fact, we prefer if you visit and let us know your vision.
-
We do not run a discount membership program — every client receives the same uncompromising quality and attention. Interior designers and trade professionals are welcome; simply mention your project when inquiring and we will extend our professional courtesy pricing.
-
Minor adjustments are possible early in the build. Once we move into final shaping and finishing, changes become limited to protect the integrity of the piece and the timeline. We communicate at every stage so surprises are eliminated.

Entirely in our small studio by the founder and a tight team of master craftspeople. No overseas production. Every cut, plane, and finish is done by hand where the timber first meets the fire.
